ONGOING PROJECTS:
Children's Welfare Scheme
Objective: To provide education opportunities for underprivileged children who are either orphans or whose parents are too poor to pay for their education.
Beneficiaries: Orphans, Children with disabled parents, children living in poverty and underprivileged children.
The NWAB in 1991 initiated a small fund to support orphans and disadvantaged children attending school. Assistance to this scheme first came from sympathetic and concerned citizens of the country. As the number of the beneficiaries gradually grew so did the problem associated to the lack of sufficient funds. The Kunhanns Trust Fund (KTF) based in Austria, generously provided funds to support this scheme from 1996 to 1997. Contribution also came from welfare association such as the Human Touch Fund (HTF), a personal contribution from the staff of the UNICEF working in Bhutan and small contribution from other corporate sectors. With the help of the above contributors, the scheme which initially funded the education of 24 children now provides scholarship to more than 300 students from across the country.

We have been supporting these 300 students from all over the country. As these children are still studying and as the funds provided by the Trust Fund and other donors have exhausted, it would be very hard on the part of NWAB to support them further. But it would be further unfortunate to discontinue this facility and let the children drop out of schools at this stage. Therefore, we seek funding from donors who are involved in bringing about lasting and positive changes in the lives of disadvantaged children. |
