From the President
Recognizing the important roles played by women and in order to provide
equal
opportunities at all levels of development, the 33rd resolution
passed by the
53rd session of the National Assembly instituted the
National Women’s Association of Bhutan,
NWAB in 1981.
NWAB is one of the oldest leading non-government no-profit making
organizations committed to enhancing the socio-economic status of
women particularly rural women.
NWAB believes that women have the potential to gain greater control
over their lives and contribute meaningfully to the best ot their potential
towards the well-being, progress and development of their family,
community and the nation.
In order to realize our belief, NWAB concentrates on three core programs:
- Development of capability for women
- Promotion of eco-opportunities
- Raising awareness of women’s rights and potential
However, NWAB has not been able to fully exercise its mandate as a result of
limited funds. I appeal to all those national and international agencies involved
in related objectives to contribute generously so that NWAB can bring about
lasting and positive changes in the lives of the Bhutanese women particularly
the underprivileged and the disadvantaged.
