Institutional Strengthening of NWAB

PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED:

SMOKELESS STOVE PROJECT

Objective: To reduce indoor air pollution that mostly affects women, to reduce health hazards and to reduce the pressure on the forest.

The project began in 1983 and initially NWAB has supported twenty two households with smoke free stoves and pit latrines with NWAB’s own fund.  The project was later funded by the UNICEF and technical assistance from the government. The project ended in 1990 when it became a national project.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Objective: To relieve human pressure on the forest resources through alternative income generating activities such as traditional cane basket weaving, (Bangchung & Zem), Kitchen Garden.

The project was funded by the WWF Bhutan Program in 1992-93

INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING OF NWAB

Objective: To redesign the existing NWAB structure, draw up vision and mission in line with the new structure and develop strategies that will become an integral part of NWAB’s operation.

Under the funding support from the Sustainable Development Secretariat (SDS), the NWAB undertook an organizational development program plan. The plan was to draw strategic plan of NWAB, which includes institutional strengthening focus as well. 

The project was implemented in 1st May 2004 and successfully completed in 30th April 2005.
