Women Support Centre

Objective: to provide emergency shelter for women in need of living accommodation. To create supportive environment where women can consider and discuss her alternatives; and to develop and implement education and awareness programmes on women related issues.

With the recent changes in urbanizing and employment, many women from the rural areas in Bhutan are moving to cities and town with their husbands in search of better employment opportunities, better living standard etc.  Some of them are able to find jobs; houses etc and are able to provide for their families.  Yet there are some who are unable to find jobs and provide for their families.  The husbands, unable to cope with the growing demands of their families’ needs often resort to drinking and violence in some cases.  The women and the children are frequently at the receiving end of this violence.

The NWAB in keeping with its mandate to address issues related to women plans to undertake this project by exploring the project proposal to the donors.
